Condé Nast Johansensthe internationally acclaimed
publisher of hotel guides has announced nominations for the awards for excellence
2005, with Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort receiving one of the
four nominations for Most Outstanding Resort. The Conde Nast Johansens
Recommended Hotel Guides are the most comprehensive illustrated reference to independently
owned, annually inspected hotels throughout North America, Great Britain and Europe Commenting
on the recent nomination, Greg Taylor, Resort Manager, said ... "I could
not be prouder to have been nominated in such a strong field of contenders. I
am also delighted that our resort is the only nominated contender in the South
Pacific region which gives further recognition to our newly renovated deluxe property
and staffs outstanding achievement." Recipient of the
"Cultural Tourism" honor for the 2002 Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards: Niumaia
Kavika.Niumaia has been with the resort since 1995 and serves as Cultural
Host, Medicine Man and spokesman. His award is for an individual who has, through
cultural presentations and crafts, preserved and enhanced the traditional cultures
that make up Fiji's multi-racial society. Honored as the Best
Resort Hotel for Diving by Harpers Abroad in the "150 Best Places on
Earth" in the Harpers & Queen Travel Awards, January 2003.One of Europe's
leading magazines, Harpers & Queen had this to say about the resort:
"Best for Diving. The name alone suggests that,
at this resort diving is a serious attraction. Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of Jacques,
is the founder and owner of the five-star resort on the south coast of the Fijian
island of Vanua Levu, where the Koro Sea meets Savusavu Bay. The PADI dive school
has access to some of the world's most enviable dive sites: Shark Alley, and the
more seductive Big Blue. There are also underwater-photography courses, and a
video link that enables topside guests to watch and talk to divers."
In
the June 2002 issue of Travel + Leisure, rated by readers who participated
in the annual "World's Best" poll for its exceptional service.The resort
tied for first place in the rankings for the Best Service in Fiji - and third
place in the entire region of Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. In
the November 2001 issue of Travel + Leisure, recognized for its food.
The
resort was one of two hotels in Fiji singled out for its food - and was rated
#4 among the "Top Hotels for Food in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific,"
according to the Readers' Poll of the "World's Best Food." Voted
by Travel + Leisure readers as the "#1 Hotel in Fiji" in August 2001and
tied for #6 among all hotels in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
Now in its sixth year, the magazine polls thousands of subscribers to define the
