3rd Annual
Savusavu South Pacific Music Festival

A musical safari through the islands
November 22 – 25, 2006

Based on last year’s success, the 2006 music festival will follow a similar format:

EVENT OVERVIEW
The 2006 music festival has two components, both local and international.

  • Fiji String Band: First, the winner of the Fiji String Band Competition will perform at each Music Festival venue. The Fiji String Band Competition is a national competition with the finals held in Suva. Besides performances at the Music Festival venues, there will be a free public festival in Savusavu, which also features crafts, meke, and other activities. The string band will also be supported by other local performers.

  • Invited Musicians in Concert: Second, the invited bands will perform in concert. For 2006, featured musicians will include groups from various South Pacific islands, including Fiji, Hawaii, Vanuatu, Tahiti, New Zealand

DESCRIPTION OF PERFORMANCES & OTHER MUSIC FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES:

The Savusavu South Pacific Music Festival features a roster of the best South Pacific musical and dance performers. Each night attendees travel to different venues to enjoy the islands’ top performers, including indigenous South Pacific Islands musicians, dance theatres, Solomon Islands Pan Pipers and more. Each night will be a different experience with different performers – but all will highlight the top musical performers from around the islands, under starry, tropical skies.

During each day a different agenda is planned – waterfall treks, kayaking, snorkeling, cruising and more. This year’s festival is filled with the colors, sounds, and sights that make the South Pacific Islands a magical, musical experience.
